
Jim Armstrong first started training in the martial arts in the UK around the mid-1980s. He has trained in freestyle Karate (ECKA), Muay Thai, Filipino Martial Arts (various styles), kickboxing, Combatives, Reality Based Self Defence as well as dabbling in various other martial arts over the past 30+ years. Jim has been teaching martial arts since the late ’80s. He is an instructor in Nasubukang Arnis (2013) a full instructor in Urban Combatives (2018) the only Protect Self Defence instructor in Australia, an instructor at Women’s Self Defence Network (2018) founder of BareBones Combatives (2014) as well as being the founder of Raw Combatives (2004) along with Jeremy De Silva.
Jim has had several fights in the ring and has also competed in stick fighting in the Philippines. Twice representing Australia at the WEKAF world stick fighting championships – 1998 and 2000. He also held instructor status in Doce Pares Eskrima (2000) senior instructor rank of the AIM Academy (2000) as well as becoming an instructor in Senshido International (2013) but no longer teaches under these systems.
Jim has featured in and has written many articles for Blitz Martial Arts magazine, as well as featuring on the cover (2016). Jim teaches out of The Garage in Glen Waverley and also holds seminars around Australia/New Zealand as well as countries such as Dubai, Ireland, Finland, Germany and Belgium. He is considered to be one of the best self-protection and combative instructors in Australia. Jim is very passionate about all martial arts and believes that it’s all about self-growth and helping others.
