My study of martial arts started 34 years ago in a small dojo in Kilsyth where I started Judo and Jujutsu. My instructor was Wally Strauss who was one of the early pioneers of Judo and Jujutsu in Australia. After Wally’s passing (1988) I trained under Barry Bradshaw until his passing in 2010. I now teach Rishin Ryu Jujutsu at the Craigieburn Martial Arts Centre.
While Jujutsu is my “go to” defence mechanism, I have also spent a number of years cross training in Wing Chun, Hung Gar Kung Fu and Karate. This all adds to my well rounded foundation.
While living in Perth I established my own dojo which successfully ran until I moved back to Melbourne in 2014. I am a certified member of the “Dai Nippon Butoku Kai” which is a prestigious martial art organisation based in Kyoto, Japan. In 2016 I travelled to Japan and demonstrated in Jujutsu and Judo at an International event that had participants from across the world.
