Paul has been involved in the arts since the age of 10. Paul Sensei, founded his own school The Sozokan Academy in March 1997. The school name reflects the ethos of striving to do your best irrespective of natural ability or position in society and is linked to Samurai legend.. Expanding from 2 to almost 80 classes a week in a few short years. Sozokan Academy is unique in Australia in it’s seven day a week approach and diversity of styles. With over 45 years of experience Paul Sensei continues to practice, travel and review the syllabi taught. his own journey encompassing karate, judo, aikido, jujitsu, BJJ, taijitsu, boxing, traditional weapons, kung fu, S.E. Asian arts, arnis and silat and now the reality based systems of America and Israel.

Paul’s specialties are practical combatives, edged weapons training and self-defence for women, children and the elderly.

Paul has trained with many of the worlds finest traditional masters, modern innovators, and MMA/UFC legends alike. Amongst these, Rigan Machado, John Will, Xande Ribiero, Royce Gracie, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, Randy Couture, Dan Inosanto, Maurice Smith, Kryzstof Soszynski, Anthony Perosh, Elvis Sinosic, Maj Avi Nadia, Hock Hockheim, AMOK! founder Tom Sotis, Knife Maestro Raymond Floro, Aikido Sensei’s Joe Thambu and Jack Sato and world head Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba, Maestro Greg Henderson, Kyoshi David Montebello, Master Ray Lawrence, Grandmaster William Cheung, Shihan’s Sugano, Tanemura, Igareshi, De Jong, Hanshi Peter Chek and Shihan Barry Bradshaw and others. The last decade has seen Paul up skilling in the modern combatives KAPAP, Krav Maga, ISR Matrix and SFC . One of the state’s most senior CQB instructors Paul is the WA director for KAPAP IKF of the Israeli Special Forces and in 2015 was promoted to the position of CQB Level 3 national representative for civilian instruction in Australia. He is considered amongst the top 5 reality based instructors in Australia.
